What changes take place at male puberty?
Puberty is the time when the body begins to mature sexually.
Around 10 to 14 years old, rapid growth is noticed, which means that the boy will become a taller person in a short period of time. Sometimes, before growth begins, you may also gain weight.
During puberty the voice changes, muscle mass increases and the shoulders are widened. Hair starts to grow on the face, armpits and between the legs. Sweating increases and body odors begin. Blackheads and pimples may also appear.
All of these changes are normal and caused by hormones. Diet can also influence, as well as hereditary factors, including ethnic origin.
Puberty usually ends at age 18 or 19, when the body matures and reaches adulthood.
internal changes
- Emotional Variations: During puberty, young people can feel very happy one moment and sad the next. They start to think more about everything. They are more concerned about whether they are attractive and how others perceive them.
- Voice timbre changes: Around age 14, the voice changes and becomes deeper. This happens because the larynx and vocal cords get bigger. During this time, the voice may suddenly sound high and shrill, and at other times low and deep. Fortunately, this is only temporary. Over time, the voice becomes stable.
- Romantic Feelings Emerge: During puberty, boys begin to fantasize more about a person they care about, in the romantic sense.
- They think about sex: At this stage, everything related to sex arouses curiosity and boys think about it more often. Many like to read about the topic, see pictures and talk about it with friends.
external changes
During puberty, many external changes occur in the body, including:
- Sweating: Boys sweat more, especially in the armpits. The odor is strong but it is completely normal.
- Skin and acne: For many young people, adolescence is a time when the skin becomes more oily and produces more sweat. Sometimes the oil can block the skin pores and pilosebaceous follicles, resulting in pimples.
- Hair: Hair starts to grow on different parts of the body such as the upper lip, armpits, around the penis, anus and scrotum. Some also notice chest and back hair. The amount of hair that grows depends on genetics.
- Broad shoulders: Around age 14, many grow rapidly. This implies an increase in height and enlargement of the shoulders and chest.
- Nipple Enlargement: Many young people experience swelling in the nipples resulting in enlarged breasts. This is normal. Some boys experience strong tenderness or pain at the site. Also, one nipple may swell more than the other. Although it is a common phenomenon, many find it embarrassing. But it disappears in a year or two, once the puberty changes are complete.
- Penis and testicles: During puberty, the penis and testicles grow. First, the testes increase in size; then also the penis. The penis increases first in thickness and then in length. In most boys, the penis reaches its full development by age 15.
